When Elizabeth Hotchkiss finds the tongue-in-cheek guide How to Marry a Marquis, she never imagines she'd put its tips to use—let alone on the dashing new estate manager. But James Sidwell, the Marquis of Riverdale, is no ordinary man. And what starts as a lesson in flirtation quickly turns into something far more complicated... and heartfelt.

My Review
Julia Quinn delivers again with this witty, romantic tale set in the Regency era. How to Marry a Marquis is delightfully cheeky and filled with all the charm, chemistry, and slow-burn tension you’d expect from her work. While technically part of the *Agents of the Crown* series, this book reads easily as a standalone—but if you’ve read To Catch an Heiress, you’ll love the subtle connections.
Elizabeth is no damsel—she’s clever, grounded, and fiercely devoted to her younger siblings. James, meanwhile, is layered with just enough roguish mischief and aristocratic polish to make him irresistible. Their banter is crisp, their chemistry electric, and their journey to love filled with laugh-out-loud moments and swoon-worthy tension.
Special mention goes to the always-iconic Lady Danbury. Her cameos are nothing short of brilliant—adding sass, heart, and her signature cane-whacking wisdom to the mix.
Character Spotlight
- Elizabeth Hotchkiss: A practical companion with a heart of gold and a dry sense of humor.
- James Sidwell: The charming marquis hiding his identity to investigate a blackmailer—until love gets in the way.
- Lady Danbury: As sharp-tongued and meddlesome as ever—in the best possible way.
My Favorite Quote
"Falling in love was not part of the plan—but then again, neither was he."
Final Thoughts
If you love your historical romances with snappy dialogue, hidden identities, and meddling matchmakers, this book belongs on your nightstand. It's clever, charming, and Quinn at her best.
