Book Description
Being an immortal rogue enforcer is never easy. But when human bones are found buried in a residential garden—and they happen to be discovered by your life mate—things get even more complicated in this latest installment of New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands’s wickedly alluring Argeneau vampire series.
Crispinus Delacort is an immortal rogue enforcer and a homicide detective. But in his quiet city, he’s more likely to be rounding up truant teens than investigating murders. So, when he learns that human bones have been found in the garden of a sprawling rural home, it’s unexpected to say the least.
Abril Newman can’t believe her bad luck when she discovers a body buried on the grounds of her boss’s home, while chasing after Gina’s mischievous lab Lilith. She was just supposed to be house-sitting for a few days! And then Detective Delacort arrives. She knows she shouldn’t be thinking about love when there’s a crime scene outside the door. But ignoring her attraction to gorgeous Crispin is easier said than done.
When Crispin realizes that a rogue is involved, he knows this won’t be a simple investigation. Especially because he’s so distracted by Abril’s presence that all he wants is to kiss her senseless in every room of the manor. But he can woo her, solve the case, and stop a dangerous rogue by morning...right? All in a day’s work.

My Review
Thirty-seven books! Can you believe we're here and I'm still absolutely obsessed with this series? I've been with the Argeneaus since the very beginning, and honestly, this book reminded me why I fell in love with Lynsay Sands' world in the first place.
What worked beautifully for me was the immediate chemistry between Abril and Crispin. None of that drawn-out "I can't possibly be attracted to this person" nonsense - just pure, instant life mate recognition and the chaos that follows.
Abril's situation really intrigued me, though I wish we'd gotten more backstory. She's clearly devoted to her boss to an almost concerning degree. There was something almost puppet-like about the dynamic that made me want to dig deeper.
Poor thing has the worst luck though! I lost count of how many accidents she had throughout the story. What I didn't expect was how these "accidents" would tie into the larger mystery in such a clever way.
Crispin was exactly what I wanted in an immortal hero. Ancient, experienced, but completely thrown off his game by finding his mate after millennia of waiting. The fact that he's both a detective and an enforcer gives him this perfect skill set.
The mystery element kept me completely engaged. Sands crafted a tragic backstory involving a desperate husband's attempt to save his dying wife that goes horribly wrong. It was heartbreakingly human.
And Lucian! That man never changes, does he? His dry commentary throughout the investigation had me laughing out loud. Some characters never get old, and he's definitely one of them.
Character Spotlight
Abril won me over with her quiet resilience and chaotic charm. Between juggling home renovations, a string of bizarre accidents, and caring for her boss’s high-maintenance dog, she keeps moving forward—even when the odds (and the corpses) start to pile up. There’s more to her loyalty than meets the eye, and it kept me curious throughout.Despite her string of bad luck and mysterious devotion to her absent boss, she handles every curveball with surprising grace.
Crispin brings that perfect immortal energy—ancient and capable, yet completely undone by meeting his lifemate. As both detective and enforcer, he’s used to being in control, which makes his vulnerability around Abril even more compelling. He balances stoicism and sincerity in a way that makes him an instant favorite.
Lucian remains the gruff, unshakable presence longtime fans know and love. He walks into every scene with a sigh and a sarcastic remark, but beneath the dry humor is someone deeply committed to protecting his people. His no-nonsense approach to danger—and romance—offers both comic relief and emotional grounding.
Gina, Abril’s demanding boss. Her absence sets everything in motion, leaving Abril to manage the estate, oversee construction, and care for her energetic dog while trying to stay on top of every tiny detail. Gina is controlling, impatient, and quick to throw a tantrum if things don’t meet her on’t go her way (or on her timeline). Her influence adds pressure and stakes, even from afar.
Lilith, the large yellow Labrador retriever, is pure chaotic joy, she might just be the best unintentional matchmaker in the Argeneau universe. She’s the reason Abril and Crispin cross paths, and her antics—from bolting after wildlife to instigating awkward encounters—keep the story light and warm. In a world of fated love and rogue immortals, Lilith proves that sometimes the most powerful matchmaker is a dog with a leash and a mission.
Setting & Atmosphere
The rural property setting provided a cozy but suspenseful backdrop. The house practically became a character of its own, full of charm, secrets, and unexpected danger.

Origin: Atlantis & the Nanos
Immortals descend from Atlanteans who used nanos to heal and enhance their bodies. These nanos require blood to function, which led to vampire myths. Immortals are not undead—they're biologically advanced and virtually ageless.
