Wish Upon a Star by Sarah Morgan Book Review

Wish Upon a Star by Sarah Morgan book cover

Some Christmas romances sparkle right away. Others have moments that shine, even if the whole story does not completely come together.

Today I’m revisiting an older review from the Forever Book Lover archives: Wish Upon a Star by Sarah Morgan. This Mills & Boon Medical Romance includes two short holiday stories with snowy settings, second chances, unexpected family, and emotional healing.

About the Book

Love is in the air this Christmas.

Christy is hoping to skip Christmas this year, but her children have other ideas. Their father is at the top of their Christmas wish list, which means Christy finds herself heading to the Lake District to spend the holiday with her ex-husband, Alessandro.

Miranda has a very different problem. Single and pregnant at Christmas, she is not exactly expecting miracles. But when Jake steps into her life, she starts to wonder if happiness might be possible after all.

My Review

This was my first book from the Mills & Boon Medical Romance line. The book includes two short stories, and while both had interesting elements, I connected more strongly with Miranda and Jake’s story.

The medical setting is detailed, and I appreciated how competent and experienced the heroines were in their professional lives. That said, some of the terminology may feel confusing for U.S. readers who are not familiar with British medical titles or wording. Terms like “sister” for nurse, “consultant” for specialist, and the use of “Mr.” or “Ms.” for certain doctors took me out of the story at times.

For readers new to UK medical romance, a small glossary would have been helpful. Some of the meaning can be picked up from context, but not always.

In the first story, Alessandro came across as very domineering. While I usually enjoy a second-chance romance, I did not feel fully convinced that Christy and Alessandro had resolved the communication issues that originally drove them apart. I wanted more emotional openness between them before fully believing in their reunion.

Miranda’s story worked better for me. A pregnant heroine falling for someone new can be tricky to write, but Sarah Morgan handled it with warmth and care. Miranda and Jake’s story felt sweeter, softer, and more emotionally satisfying. Their connection gave the book its strongest romantic pull.

Even though the book has a Christmas setting, I did not feel either story fully captured the Christmas spirit in the way I expected. I also found the title, Wish Upon a Star, a little disconnected from the stories themselves.

Overall, this was a pleasant medical romance with a few rough patches. It was not a favorite for me, but readers who enjoy short medical romances, emotional second chances, and holiday settings may still find something to enjoy here.

Final Thoughts: A quick holiday medical romance with two stories, competent heroines, and a sweeter second half that worked better for me than the first.

I received a free ARC in exchange for an honest review.
