Book Blurb:
Highlander Campbell Sinclair is no stranger to battle, so when he sees a lad attacked by bandits, he jumps into the fray. He didn't count on being stabbed. Grateful to the boy for nursing him back to health, Cam offers to accompany Jo safely to his destination. But when he accidentally comes across the lad bathing in the river, Cam discovers that Jo is actually Joan . . . with the most sinful of curves.
Joan promised her mother that she would deliver a scroll to the clan MacKay. But traveling alone is dangerous, even disguised as a boy. When a Scottish warrior lends his aid, she is more than relieved . . . until he surprises her with lingering kisses and caresses that prove her disguise hasn't fooled him. As their passion ignites, will the secrets of the scroll force a wedding . . . and lead to a love she's never known?
To Marry a Scottish Laird gave me all of that and more.
The heroine, Joan, is one of the most determined and refreshingly bold women I’ve encountered in historical romance. She disguises herself as a boy to travel alone (yes, alone!) across the countryside, and from the very first pages, you know she’s got grit, heart, and a stubborn streak that makes her impossible not to root for. She's clever, resourceful, and doesn’t back down from a challenge.
And then there’s Campbell. Sigh. He’s the kind of Highland hero who doesn’t just wear a kilt well—he makes you wish you could step into the story and get lost in the misty hills right alongside him. He’s strong, protective, surprisingly thoughtful, and—yes—he completely melted my socks off. His slow-burn realization of Joan’s worth, both as a woman and a partner, was beautifully done.
The chemistry between Joan and Campbell crackles from their first encounter, and while the romance develops quickly, it never feels forced. What surprised me most about this book was how much adventure and intrigue was packed into the plot. There are twists, unexpected turns, and even a little mystery woven throughout that kept me flipping the pages.
Lynsay Sands has such a gift for balancing tension, tenderness, and humor. Her storytelling always feels effortless, and she never forgets to include just enough lighthearted moments to make the characters feel human and relatable. While this book is part of her Highland Brides series, it reads perfectly as a standalone—though, fair warning, you may find yourself rushing to pick up the others afterward!
Final Thoughts:
If you’re looking for a smart, strong heroine, a swoon-worthy Scottish laird, and a romance packed with adventure, this one’s for you. To Marry a Scottish Laird delivers everything I love about Highland historicals: passion, danger, loyalty, and love that triumphs over all. This is the perfect book to curl up with and escape into another time.
📚 Highland romance lovers—this one is guaranteed to leave you smiling.
💘 Ready for your next book boyfriend? Lynsay Sands delivers the swoon.
