Book Blogger Hop: What Drives You to Read Books?

Book Blogger Hop illustration

I’ve always believed that what pulls us toward books says a lot about who we are as readers.

It’s time for another Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer! Each week, bloggers answer the same bookish question and then hop around to see everyone’s responses.

This Week’s Prompt

What drives you to read books?

My Answer

At the heart of it, what drives me to read is connection.

I read to step into someone else’s world — whether that’s a small-town romance, a historical setting, or a story that mirrors real-life emotions I recognize. Books let me experience lives, choices, and perspectives beyond my own, and that pull never really goes away.

Reading is also where I find comfort. There’s something grounding about opening a book at the end of a long day and knowing I’ll be absorbed by a story that asks nothing of me except to show up and turn the page.

And sometimes? I read simply because I’m curious. Curious about how a story will unfold, how characters will change, or how an author will make me feel by the final chapter. That quiet anticipation is often what pulls me into my next read.

How about you? What truly drives you to read — escape, comfort, curiosity, or something else entirely?
