Book Blogger Hop: What Should Happen to Your Book Collection After You're Gone?

Books aren’t just paper and ink—they’re pieces of our lives.

It’s time for another Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer! Each week, we all answer the same bookish question and then hop around to see everyone’s responses.

This Week’s Prompt

If you had to, would you pass your book collection on to someone special? If not, what would you prefer your family or friends do with your books after you’re gone?

My Answer

This question made me pause.

If there’s someone in my life who genuinely loves books the way I do, I would absolutely want them to choose from my collection. Not out of obligation—but because the stories meant something to me, and I’d love for them to mean something to someone else.

That said, I don’t expect anyone to keep shelves of books simply because they were mine. Stories are meant to be read, not stored out of guilt. If no one felt a personal connection to them, I’d rather they be donated to a library, a community organization, or passed along to other readers who will actually open them.

There’s something comforting about the idea that the books we loved continue their journey long after we do—finding new hands, new hearts, and new homes.

What about you? Would you want someone special to keep your collection—or would you prefer your books to find new readers?

  1. That's a lovely response. I said my sister as my kids are too young to ask 😂

    Have a great weekend!
