Not every book I read becomes a blog post, and that is actually intentional.
Welcome back to the Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer! This week’s Book Blogger Hop question is one I have thought about often, especially as my blog has grown into more than just reviews.
Book Blogger Hop Question
How do you decide which books to highlight on your blog?
Submitted by Billy @ Coffee-Addicted Writer
My Answer
I usually decide which books to highlight by asking myself one simple question: will this help another reader decide if the book fits their mood?
I do not feature every book I read, and I do not choose books only because they are new, popular, or showing up everywhere. Sometimes I highlight new releases or ARCs, but only when I feel like I have something useful to share.
A while back, I wrote more about this in How I Decide What Belongs on My Book Blog. That post looks at the bigger picture of what fits Forever Book Lover, but the same idea applies here too.
Reader Fit Comes First
When I highlight a book, I want to be able to explain who might enjoy it. Is it cozy? Emotional? Angsty? Lighthearted? A good book club pick? A perfect weekend read?
The more clearly I can connect a book to a certain reading mood or type of reader, the more likely I am to share it on the blog.
Some Books Fit Better in Lists
Not every book needs a full review. Some books make more sense in a themed book list, a seasonal reading post, or a book club pairing.
That is one of the reasons I enjoy creating recommendation lists. A book may not need a long standalone post, but it might be perfect for a rainy day romance list, a small-town romance roundup, or a cozy reading weekend post.
I Try to Keep the Blog Curated
Over time, I have learned that curation matters more than volume. Some books I enjoy quietly. Some I mention on Goodreads. Some simply do not feel like the right fit for this space.
For Forever Book Lover, I want the books I highlight to feel connected to the kind of reading life I share here: thoughtful reviews, cozy recommendations, book club ideas, reading moods, and the little rituals that make reading feel special.
So my answer is simple: I highlight books when I feel they belong here, when I can offer helpful reader guidance, or when they connect naturally to the cozy, bookish conversations I love sharing.
