What if the cougar you tagged in the wild turned out to be your soulmate—in human form? That’s the steamy premise of Falke’s Captive, the second book in the Puma Nights series by Madison Layle and Anna Leigh Keaton.
Graduate student Beth Coldwell is in town to study wildcats, but her plans take a wild turn when she meets Kelan and Reidar Falke—two sexy, mysterious brothers with a secret. When Beth unknowingly tranquilizes Kelan in his cougar form, she puts their entire shifter clan at risk. What follows is a fiery, sensual romance as the brothers try to protect their truth while convincing Beth that she's their destined mate.

My Review
I went into this expecting a quick shifter fix and got more depth than I bargained for. Falke’s Captive blends danger, sensuality, and a unique twist on fated mates that really worked for me.
The dynamic between Kelan and Reidar is well-done—Kelan plays the alpha protector while Reidar brings the softer, romantic balance. Beth, our heroine, is smart, capable, and totally unaware that her cougar research is leading her straight into the arms (and paws) of a shifter family. I liked that she wasn’t just there to be claimed; she has her own goals, fears, and choices to make.
My only critique? The ending felt a bit rushed. I would’ve loved more emotional buildup before the final resolution. Still, the tension, heat, and paranormal stakes made for a fast-paced read that kept me engaged.
"I wasn't looking for my mate—our mate. And I damn sure never expected her to shoot me in the ass when I did find her."
