My Thoughts
This is the fourth book in Katie Lane’s Deep in the Heart of Texas series, and even though I haven’t read the first three, this one stood perfectly well on its own. That said, I’ll definitely be scooping up the others now—because this was a blast.
From the very first chapters, I was laughing out loud. Picture a tough cowboy brought to his knees—literally—by three aging Southern belles who are trying to revive the “Hen House,” a former brothel turned refuge for women in need. These ladies? Unforgettable. And absolutely hilarious.
The romance between Brant and Elizabeth was sizzling, but it was the quirky secondary characters and added murder mystery that made this story shine. I couldn’t put it down. It had charm, sass, heart, and just enough mischief to keep me entertained from start to finish.
Katie Lane is new to me, but this won’t be the last book I read from her. If you love small-town humor with a sexy cowboy twist, this one’s for you.
