Book Blurb
Twenty-year-old Ryelee Snyder is pregnant and alone. Fortunately, she finds a job as a nanny to precocious four-year-old Rheenie Maloney. Life is perfect—except for horse trainer Clint Maloney. Ryelee constantly feels his disapproval and fears being fired.
Clint needs help with his daughter but never bargained on hiring someone like Ryelee. The tall, gangly girl seems like a walking disaster. Yet, when Clint learns of her pregnancy, his view shifts. He begins to see her not as a nuisance, but as a passionate woman with a generous heart.
Secrets, misunderstandings, and cattle rustling threaten their growing connection. Just when they start finding their way to each other, Ryelee’s involvement in the rustling is revealed. Can she fight for the love of a lifetime?
My Thoughts
This book is an emotional rollercoaster. It’s the second in the series, and I do recommend reading Texas Haven first to fully enjoy the character dynamics.
We meet Clint, a widower raising his spunky daughter Rheenie, who was injured in the same accident that claimed her mother. Enter Ryelee—a young, sweet, but slightly accident-prone nanny who immediately catches Clint’s attention... though not always in a good way at first!
Ryelee’s background is heartbreaking—an abusive father who gambled away her innocence. When her pregnancy comes to light, she’s cast out, forcing her to fend for herself and her unborn child. Thankfully, Clint needs help caring for Rheenie. Cue lots of sparks, misunderstandings, and the kind of emotional angst that has you yelling at the pages!
I will admit there were moments I wanted to shake both Ryelee and Clint. Ryelee for not trusting Clint with her secrets, and Clint for being hot one moment and cold the next. He definitely had some grumpy cowboy vibes going!
Despite all the drama, the moments with Annie and Burke (from Texas Haven) were heartwarming and added a much-needed anchor of love and community.
This was my first read from Kathleen Ball, and it certainly won’t be my last. She delivers small-town western romance with just the right amount of grit, drama, and heart.
