I may be a reader first, but the editor and writer in me are never far behind.
Each week, I join the Book Blogger Hop at Coffee Addicted Writer for a new question about books, reading, and the bookish life.
This week's question asks whether I see myself as an editor, a writer, or just a reader. For me, I don't think those roles are completely separate.
Book Blogger Hop Question
Do you see yourself more as an editor, a writer, or just a reader?

My Answer
I would say I fall into all three categories.
Even when I'm simply reading, there's a little bit of an editor in me. If I spot a grammatical error, a missing word, or—one that really gets my attention—the wrong character name, I notice it immediately. It doesn't necessarily ruin the book for me, but once I see it, I can't unsee it.
There's a writer in there too. I have an unfinished romance novel that I've been working on for a while. I've put it aside more than once, but every so often the story starts unfolding in my head again and I go back to it. Maybe one day those characters will finally tell me how their story ends.
And then there's the reader—which is definitely the biggest part of me. I love getting caught up in someone else's characters and story and seeing where the author takes me.
I actually think the three overlap more than we realize. Reading makes me notice how a story is put together, editing makes me pay attention to the details, and writing gives me a whole new appreciation for what it takes to get a story onto the page.

Are you an editor, a writer, a reader—or a little bit of all three?
Do you catch errors while you're reading, or are you able to stay completely lost in the story? And have you ever tried writing a book of your own?
Stop by and let me know. Happy Reading!

It was an interesting prompt this week. I mainly think of myself as a reader but now I'm not so sure. I read every single word so tend to notice mistakes.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend!

Definitely blogging requires all three skills -- else our reviews wouldn't be helpful to other people or even express what we want them to! But people undervalue that a lot.
ReplyDeleteThis is a fun prompt. I would say I am above all else a reader -- It's my biggest passion. However, book blogging sure makes you all three -- and I do a little bit of all through as part of my actual job, too!
ReplyDeleteGreat answer. I feel like I'm mostly a reader. I do, of course, write and edit, but not nearly as much as I read.
