Do you follow book trends and bestsellers, or do you prefer hunting down lesser-known titles?

My Answer
I definitely notice which books are trending and which titles seem to be everywhere, but I don’t usually pick up a book just because everyone else is reading it.
A bestseller list might make me curious enough to look a book up, but what really matters to me is whether the story sounds like something I would actually enjoy. The author, genre, synopsis, and overall feel of the book are much more important to me than how popular it happens to be.
I also tend to follow authors I already know and enjoy, especially when they have a new release or are starting a new series. At the same time, some of my favorite discoveries have come from other bloggers mentioning a book I had never heard of before.
That’s one of the things I enjoy most about the book community. A lesser-known title can suddenly land on my radar because someone else loved it enough to talk about it, and sometimes those unexpected finds end up being the books I remember most.
So I’d say I’m somewhere in the middle. I pay attention to trends, but I don’t let them decide what I read. I’m much happier choosing books based on what genuinely interests me, whether that book is sitting at the top of a bestseller list or quietly waiting to be discovered.

I'd say I end up in a similar sort of spot, but mostly because I don't pay attention to trends very much -- they do influence what books I come across due to how bookshop curation works and so on, and because of other bloggers... but I think I tend to find my books more organically, whether or not they're on-trend.

DeleteI've always tended to stay away from bestsellers---I've felt like those sorts of books read like they were written by AI, even before AI was a thing. But that's just me.

DeleteYeah, I definitely don't read a book just because it's popular and sometimes am not even aware of what's popular but if a book aligns with my interest or curiousity it'll likely make its way on to the TBR.
