Sunday Recap #5 – Summer Walks, Campfires & New Discoveries

Sunday Recap – Books, Bites & Cozy Nights

Summer walks, campfire inspiration, birthday moments, and new discoveries.

Welcome to my end-of-week wrap-up! I'm linking up with the Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and the Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.

Hi friends,

This week reminded me that some of the best moments aren't the ones we plan. Between celebrating my husband's birthday, spotting a bird we'd never seen before at our feeder, and discovering a bookish T-shirt I may have to go back and buy, it was one of those weeks filled with little surprises.

♡ A Little From My Week

The past week has been hot and humid, but unlike the previous few weeks, we haven't had our usual afternoon thunderstorms or evening rain. Instead of trying to walk outside in the heat, my husband and I headed to the mall three times this week.

We've started a little challenge to see whether we can reach our step goals each day. Turning it into a friendly competition has made the walks more fun—and walking inside where there is air conditioning certainly doesn't hurt.

During one of our mall walks, I spotted this bookish display and couldn't resist taking a picture. Apparently, the stores know exactly how to tempt a reader. I have a feeling the shirt, the hat, or possibly both may be coming home with me on our next visit.

A Birthday Celebration

Yesterday was my husband's birthday, and we had such a wonderful day together. We enjoyed celebrating, sharing a nice meal, and simply slowing down long enough to appreciate the occasion. Sometimes the best birthdays aren't about elaborate plans—they're about being together, enjoying the day, and celebrating another year of memories.

An Unexpected Visitor

We love watching the feathered visitors that stop by our bird feeder, and this week we spotted one we had never seen before. It appears to be a young male Brown-headed Cowbird beginning its transition into adult plumage.

About an hour later, the rest of the family stopped by for a few seeds before disappearing as quickly as they arrived. Interestingly, we only saw them that one day. My husband joked that they must have been vacationing at the coast.

๐Ÿ“– New on the Blog This Week

Campfire book club night with books, lanterns, and a s'mores board

My favorite project this week was creating Campfire Book Club Night. Once the idea started taking shape, the whole post seemed to come together quickly.

I wanted the evening to feel like more than another gathering, so I put a campfire spin on the traditional charcuterie board and created a generous s'mores board filled with everything guests need to build their perfect treat. I can picture friends laughing, roasting marshmallows, talking about books, and staying outside long after the sun goes down.

Here are two posts readers have been discovering on Pinterest lately:

☕ From the Archives

๐Ÿ“š What I'm Reading

I'm currently reading Our Extraordinary Summer by Lori Wilde, and it has been keeping me up later than I intended. I've even been trying to sneak in an hour during lunch because there is always something happening and I want to know what comes next.

My reading has been moving a little more slowly lately because life has been busy, but Lori Wilde has a wonderful way of pulling you into a story until you feel as though you know the characters personally. That's exactly what this book has done for me.

๐Ÿฝ️ This Week's Pairing

This week's pairing brings together The Lost Book of First Loves by RaeAnne Thayne with Tuna with White Bean Salad, served alongside warm roasted garlic bread. It's the kind of light summer dinner that won't heat up the kitchen, leaving plenty of time to settle onto the porch with a heartfelt story and enjoy a relaxing evening before another busy week begins.

๐Ÿ”– Coming Up Next Week

Next week, I'll be back with more bookish conversation, another Book Blogger Hop, and something new from the kitchen. I'm also hoping to make more progress in Our Extraordinary Summer—assuming I don't stay up late and finish it first.
