My Answer
This week's question sent me digging way back into my reading archives. With so many new books released every year, I think some wonderful older books can quietly slip out of the conversation. My pick takes me all the way back to 2012: The Reason Is You by Sharla Lovelace.
I originally read and reviewed The Reason Is You when it was released, and I gave it five stars. Looking back at my original review reminded me just how much this story affected me. I laughed, I cried, I became completely invested in the characters, and when I reached the last page, I still wanted more.
It's a contemporary romance with a paranormal twist, following Dani as she returns to the small Texas town she left years before. But there's another important part of her story: Alex, a man who has been a presence in her life since childhood—even though he's been dead for forty years.
It's an unusual premise, but what stayed with me wasn't simply the paranormal element. It was the emotion. This was one of those books that pulled me into the characters' lives and made me care about what happened to them.
More than fourteen years later, I don't hear The Reason Is You mentioned very often. Yet when I went back and read what I'd written about it in 2012, I remembered exactly why I loved it. I even wrote then that I would read it again.
That's what makes it my choice for this week's question. Sometimes the books that deserve more love aren't necessarily the newest hidden gems. They're the wonderful stories sitting quietly in the backlist, waiting for another reader to discover them.

I thought about talking about older books too! But waaayy older, classic crime that hasn't really stuck in the mind (contemporaries of e.g. Agatha Christie, but less remembered). I love 'em so much, haha.
