Gabrielle of St. Biel is a noblewoman raised in privilege, but her world is upended when she’s sent to the Highlands for a politically driven marriage. What she finds instead is betrayal, hidden truths about her heritage, and the fierce warrior Colm MacHugh.

As tensions rise between kingdoms and loyalties are questioned, Gabrielle must summon strength she never knew she had. In Colm’s arms, she finds a love as powerful as it is forbidden—but will secrets from the past destroy their future?

My Review

Julie Garwood returns to the Highlands in this emotionally rich tale of hidden identities, family honor, and unexpected love. While not as fast-paced as some of her earlier works, Shadow Music builds slowly, drawing readers into Gabrielle’s transformation from sheltered lady to resilient heroine.

Colm is every bit the stoic Highland warrior you’d expect—gruff, loyal, and surprisingly tender once his walls come down. Their romance unfolds gradually, making the eventual payoff all the more satisfying.

Though the plot leans heavily on political intrigue, Garwood weaves in her trademark humor and heart. Fans of slow-burn, character-driven love stories will find this a compelling (if slightly understated) addition to the series.

My Favorite Quote

“A warrior does not run from battle... nor from love.”

  1. I agree with you. I was very disappointed about that book ; I loved so much the others. At certain times I really thought someone else had written it. I didn't find again the magic of it !
