It’s time for another Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer! Each week, we all answer the same bookish question and then hop around to see everyone’s responses.

This Week’s Prompt

Do you struggle to start a new read after finishing a truly amazing one?
(submitted by Elizabeth @ Silver’s Reviews)

My Answer

Yes — I absolutely struggle to start a new read after finishing a truly amazing one. It’s like my mind is still living in that story, and everything on my TBR suddenly feels like the wrong mood.

If I try to force it, I usually end up distracted or overly critical of the next book, which isn’t fair to the story. What works better for me is giving myself a short pause — even just a day — before jumping into something new.

When I am ready, I often reach for a lighter “palette cleanser” or a comfort reread before diving back into something emotionally heavy.

If you’re stuck in that in-between phase, I shared a few low-pressure ideas here: 10 Fun Ways to Choose Your Next Book. Sometimes a small shift is all it takes to break a book hangover.

How about you? Do you jump right into your next book, or do you need a little breathing room after a five-star read?

  1. It's a good idea to give yourself a little break to breathe between books!

    1. Exactly — that little breathing room really helps. I’ve found it makes starting the next book feel more intentional instead of rushed. Happy Reading!

  2. As soon as I finish a book I review it and once I have done that review I start a new book. Sometimes I will do the review the next day, but I won't start a new book until the review is done! I therefore don't really have the time for books to linger 😂

    Have a great week!

    1. That’s such a smart system! Getting the review done first really does feel like a clean break before moving on. Happy Reading!
