Do you secretly enjoy a genre you don’t always admit to reading?

It’s time for another Book Blogger Hop hosted by Coffee Addicted Writer! Each week, we all answer the same bookish question and then hop around to see everyone’s responses.

This Week’s Prompt

Are there genres you read that you feel a little shy about?

My Answer

This question made me smile because I think most readers have at least one genre they enjoy quietly.

For me, it’s probably some of the extra spicy romance titles. I read romance regularly and talk about it openly on my blog, but some of the more intense or steamy stories aren’t always the first thing I mention when someone asks what I’m reading.

That’s partly because romance readers still deal with a lot of stereotypes. Yet the truth is that romance is one of the most diverse genres out there. Some books are emotional and character-driven, others include adventure, mystery, or historical settings—and some lean heavily into passion and chemistry.

Over time I’ve become much more comfortable owning my reading tastes. Books are meant to entertain us, help us escape for a while, and sometimes even challenge us. There’s really no reason to feel shy about the stories that bring us joy.

And honestly, many readers have a “secret” genre they love—whether it’s paranormal romance, dark romance, or even cozy mysteries they devour late at night.

What about you? Is there a genre you enjoy that you don’t always mention right away?
