Book Blogger Hop: The Most Unexpected Place I’ve Ever Read

Book Blogger Hop illustration

Books have a funny way of following us into the most unexpected places.

This week’s Book Blogger Hop question made me smile because readers are rarely limited to cozy chairs, quiet corners, or perfectly styled reading nooks. Sometimes we read wherever we can sneak in a few pages.

Book Blogger Hop Question

What’s the quirkiest or most unexpected place you’ve ever read a book, and why?

My Answer

The quirkiest place I've ever read a book was sitting in a closet with my dog during a tornado warning here in South Carolina.

Like many people in the South, when severe weather rolls through, you keep an eye on the radar and hope for the best. On this particular day, the warnings became serious enough that my dog and I headed for the safest spot in the house—a small interior closet.

I grabbed a flashlight, my eReader, and settled in to wait. It probably wasn't the reading nook most people imagine, but it helped pass the time and gave me something positive to focus on while the storm moved through the area.

Looking back, the image still makes me smile: me, my dog, a flashlight, and a book tucked into a closet while the weather raged outside. It certainly wasn't cozy by choice, but it may be the most unexpected place I've ever spent time reading.

One of the things I love about books is that they can provide a little escape no matter where you are—even if that place happens to be a closet during a tornado warning.
