Bookstore browsing, iced coffee, date nights, and the first little signs that fall is on its way.
Welcome to my end-of-week wrap-up! I'm linking up with the Sunday Post hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer and the Sunday Salon hosted by Deb at Readerbuzz.
Hi friends,
This week had a little bit of everything—bookstore browsing, a few mall walks, iced coffee, two date nights, and even the first signs that summer is beginning to give way to fall. There was also a small setback at physical therapy, so the week wasn't entirely smooth, but there were plenty of good moments mixed in.
♡ A Little From My Week
One of my favorite stops this week was Books-A-Million. There is still something special about walking into a bookstore and being surrounded by books. I love wandering past the displays, looking at the beautiful cover art and decorated page edges, picking up a crisp new book, and, yes, even that unmistakable smell of the pages. An eReader may be convenient, but a bookstore gives you an experience you just can't get from scrolling through a screen.
My husband and I also made it to the mall a few times for our walks. We've been enjoying having somewhere cool to get our steps in when the weather isn't cooperating, and an iced coffee from a local coffee shop afterward makes a pretty nice reward.
A Couple of Date Nights
Thursday turned into a movie date night. My husband had been wanting to see the new Spider-Man movie, so we decided to make an evening of it and see it in 3D. It had been a long time since we'd gone to the theater, which made the whole experience feel like a little adventure.
Then Friday night we went out to a local restaurant to continue celebrating my husband's birthday. Sometimes a good dinner and time together is all you need for a really nice evening, and it was a lovely way to stretch his birthday celebration out just a little longer.
Is Summer Already Disappearing?
One thing I couldn't help noticing during our mall walks is how quickly summer seems to be disappearing from the stores. We're still very much in the middle of South Carolina summer weather, but the shelves are already filling with Halloween decorations, fall candles, pumpkins, and all the colors of the next season.
I love the cozy feeling that comes with fall, but I'm not quite ready to trade beach days and iced coffee for pumpkins just yet. For now, I'm holding on to these last weeks of summer while enjoying those little hints of what's coming next.
My hydrangeas are beginning to show the changing season.
I also shared a little glimpse of my fading hydrangeas on Instagram this week. There's something bittersweet about watching them change as summer begins to wind down, and it seemed to fit the mood of the week perfectly. If you missed it, you can watch the little hydrangea reel here.
A Small Setback
Physical therapy continues, although this week brought a bit of a setback and I had to cut one of my sessions short. Progress isn't always a straight line, so for now I'm taking things a little easier and hoping to get back on track soon.
📖 New on the Blog This Week
- Crispy Parmesan Potato Wedges: An Easy Oven-Baked Side Dish — Crispy on the outside, tender inside, and covered with Parmesan, these easy potato wedges make a simple side for dinner or casual gatherings.
- 15 Years of Forever Book Lover: What a Life of Reading Has Taught Me — This one is personal. I looked back at fifteen years of Forever Book Lover and some of the things a lifetime spent reading has taught me along the way.
- Love Wells Kept (Book #5) by Bailey Hannah Review: An Emotional Cowboy Romance — My thoughts on the emotional final book in Bailey Hannah's Wells Ranch series.
- Book Blogger Hop: The Books I Come Back to Again and Again — I'm talking about those books that earn a permanent place on our shelves—and in our reading lives—because we can't resist returning to them.
Of everything I shared this week, my 15 Years of Forever Book Lover reflection was the most personal. When I started the blog, I certainly wasn't thinking about where it might be fifteen years later. Looking back reminded me that while the blog has changed over time, the reason I keep coming back to it really hasn't—I still love reading, discovering new stories, and sharing that love with other readers.
Fifteen years also means a lot of reading memories, and Maggie and my Kindle were part of so many of them.
Maggie, my Kindle, and countless reading days along the way.

☕ From the Archives
With fifteen years of Forever Book Lover on my mind this week, it seemed like the perfect time to reach a little deeper into the archives. One takes us all the way back to 2012 for a bit of time-travel romance, while the other is a more recent visit to Robyn Carr's beloved Grace Valley series.
- Redeeming Vows (MacCoinnich Time Travel #3) by Catherine Bybee — A trip back to 2012 in the Forever Book Lover archives—and a little time-travel romance for good measure.
- Just Over the Mountain by Robyn Carr — Another older review worth revisiting for readers who enjoy emotional stories filled with relationships, family, and community.
📚 What I'm Reading
Last night I finished Felicity's Eloquent Earl by Maeve Greyson. It was an enjoyable story and brought me back into a family and world I've enjoyed spending time with. I'll be gathering my thoughts and sharing a full review soon.
This morning I started Chasing the Clouds Away by Debbie Macomber. I'm not very far into it yet, but I'm already enjoying the contrast between optimistic Maisy and the much more guarded Chase. It's still too early to know where I'll land on this one, but so far it's been easy to settle into—and I'm looking forward to seeing where their story goes.
🍽️ This Week's Pairing
This week's pairing brings together Earl Crush by Alexandra Vasti with my No-Knead Rustic Bread. There's something about a historical romance and a warm loaf of homemade bread that simply belongs together—the kind of pairing that makes you want to settle in, tear off another piece of bread, and read just one more chapter.
🔖 Coming Up Next Week
Next week, we're taking book club outside with ideas for an easy backyard gathering, including drinks, a simple timeline, and a checklist to help you pull it all together without spending the entire evening hosting instead of enjoying your book club.
I'll also be sharing my review of Our Extraordinary Summer by Lori Wilde. I've already mentioned how much this one pulled me into the story, so I'm looking forward to finally sharing all of my thoughts with you.
And for next week's Book Blogger Hop, we're talking about how we find our books: Do you follow book trends and bestsellers, or do you prefer hunting down lesser-known titles? I already know which way I lean, but I'm curious to see what other readers have to say.
Let's Chat
Are you holding on to summer as long as possible, or are you already ready for books, candles, and all things fall?
Thank you for spending part of your Sunday with me. I'm holding on to these last weeks of summer, but I have to admit that seeing those first hints of fall has me thinking about cooler evenings, cozy reads, and everything the next season will bring.
Happy Reading!

Sorry to hear about your physical therapy setback, I hope things go better for you in the coming weeks. I miss living close to a books-a-million!
ReplyDeleteThank you! I’m hoping the setback is just temporary and I can get back to making progress soon. I’m lucky to still have a Books-A-Million nearby—I always enjoy wandering through. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteSummer ending is something we have looked forward to because of the heat and humidity and the bugs in the garden that kept us away from enjoying the yard. We don't spray for insects because of the bees, so the other insects have full sway, and some of them bite! Have a great rest of summer.
ReplyDeleteI completely understand—the heat and humidity can make it hard to enjoy being outside. I love that you avoid spraying because of the bees, though! Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteCongratulations on your fifteen years of blogging. It's always a surprise to me that I continue to blog after so long! What appears on stores' shelves is so out of touch with what is going on in real life here---winter sweaters appear while we are shopping in shorts and flip-flops.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I’m amazed it’s been fifteen years too. And yes, seeing sweaters on the racks while we’re still dealing with summer heat and wearing shorts just feels wrong! Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteHappy 15 years of blogging! It's quite an accomplishment. We like to walk at the mall, too, because of the heat. We haven't had a chance to do that lately though. Hopefully soon. I hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteThank you! Fifteen years really is hard to believe. The mall has definitely been a good way to get our steps in without battling the heat! Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteHappy Blogoversary 🎈
ReplyDeleteSorry about the PT setback, hopefully it will be fleeting.
Thanks for sharing your week, happy reading!
Thank you! I’m hoping the PT setback is just a small bump in the road and I’ll be making progress again soon. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteI love the fall so I look forward to summer ending. I've never been a fan of heat but now that I'm in perimenopause it seems to be worse!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on your blogiversary! That's amazing.
Thank you! I’m ready for a little less heat too, although I’m not quite ready to say goodbye to summer yet. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteSometimes you need to take a quick step back to move forward and that is ok. :)
ReplyDeleteFall is coming here in Michigan. I have noticed more and more leaves on the ground. I am ready for it. Lol.
Thank you! I’m hoping this little step back with PT leads to more progress soon. I’m not quite ready for fall yet, but I know it’s right around the corner! Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
DeleteOh wow, a really oldschool Kindle! I remember having one of those as my second ereader (my first was a Sony).
ReplyDeleteGood luck with the physical therapy stuff. It can be so hard.
That old Kindle definitely brought back some memories! And thank you—I’m sticking with the PT and hoping to get back to making progress soon. Thanks for stopping by. Happy Reading!
